Providence Road Sundries, in existence since 1933, has long served as a neighborhood gathering place to the Myers Park area. Many walk from their nearby homes but the venerable restaurant also serves those who drive to watch their favorite sports events on one of the 12 HD flat-screen TVs. Families, too, bring their children who enjoy playing pool or other games. Many patrons reveal stories of their family gatherings of years past and others tell of meeting their spouse, giving way to the adopted phrase, “Established before you were born”.
 Owner, Norm Foltz, moved from Ann Arbor, Michigan in the fall of 2006 seeking “opportunity”. This Charlotte icon fit easily into his long-standing background of business/restaurant ownership. Through his experience, he has found the right blend of maintaining the flavor of the restaurant’s history yet keeping the menu and entertainment current.
 When entering, you will be greeted with dark wood, twinkle lights and big windows. While there is the feeling you are in a pub, the house-made recipes, including soups, salads, wings and burgers plus other American food items, keep you coming back. Reunions, luncheons, birthdays and other gatherings of up to 150 people are commonplace. Norm and his crew offer 10 on-tap beers, plus favorite craft beers alongside the extensive menu. The Sundries is located at 1522 Providence Road between Queens Road and Wendover Road.
